There wasn't any specific reason why i chose The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
I just chose this book, because when i was at the library trying to borrow My Sister's Keeper, i saw The Bell Jar and somehow i remembered that the book was on Ms. Faughey's list.
The Bell Jar kind of portrays Sylvia Plath's emotions throughout her childhood (including a mental breakdown and suicide attempt). Ester plays Sylvia Plath who gets a scholarship/internship that brings her to New York, soon she goes back to her hometown and becomes depressed and so on.
I find this book a little scary, because it is said that a month after this book's first publication, Sylvia Plath took her life (by shoving her head into the oven while the gas was on). I think that this book will be too personal and real for a reader.
Anyways, i will try to read this book and learn!

ahah, you SOMEHOW remembered that it was on the list? sometimes i rememebr things like that too..out of no where..weird. books like teh Bell Jar always seem to catch my attention. The suicide part and mental breakdown does seem kind of scary..BUT IT'S OKAY(; read it and tell me if it's any good!
LEARN, SHARON! LEARN!<3
Oh. I know zhao is also reading this book. I was reading her blog entries, but I didn't really get what it was about. She said it was semi-autobiographical though. I heard of the book, and thought that it was boring. But yeahh, the whole depression thing catches my attention now. When you finish the book, tell me if it's good/bad/okay. If you say its good, I'll probably read it. =]
Oven suicide?
Ouch. So she wrote about her childhood and mental breakdowns and suicide attempts and after she wrote this book she actually succeeded?
Wow, this book sounds very touching and depressing. It also sounds interesting. THanks for this blog. I hope ill have some time to read this book in later years to come. Haha nice job.

It sounds like a really good book but at the same time it might depress me! =[ i would probably get really into the book but i might come out of it being sad. It seems interesting keep up your blog so i can stay updated about it.
She shoved her head in an oven. I'm guessing it was a slow, painful, and hot death? Either way it's sad. Anyways, lots of people are reading this book, and it sounds really interesting. I'll probably read it myself. I know you said that it was a little scary and the subject matter is probably raw, but those books are usually the best. Well for me atleast.
